ICGI 2020 PAG workshop--October 16 deadline

Greetings to all ICGI members! This is the call for those who desire to present a talk (or nominate a speaker) at the upcoming PAG-ICGI Workshop being held at 4:00 PM - 6:10 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2020, in East 1 at Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California, USA. At this time, we solicit volunteers and nominations for PAG-ICGI Workshop Speakers. The speakers will be selected from the submitted and nominated talks if the request is received by Wednesday, October 16, 2019. Please email todd.campbell(a)usda.gov<mailto:todd.campbell@usda.gov> your request (or nomination) to present at the PAG-ICGI Workshop by October 16, 2019! Each selected workshop speaker will receive an email, after acceptance, with instructions regarding submission of their workshop abstract. Similar to last year, we anticipate 5 regular speaking slots (15-20 minutes each), and about 10-15 poster introductions, 1-2 minutes each. Please follow the different instructions below for volunteering yourself or nominating a possible speaker. A. Instructions for submitting your volunteered topic and draft abstract: Send an email with the following SUBJECT LINE: 2020 PAG-ICGI Workshop candidate abstract, to todd.campbell(a)usda.gov<mailto:todd.campbell@usda.gov> In your email, please include the following components: 1. Presenter (Your name): Family_name, First_name Institutional affiliation: ______ 2. Email address(es), separated by a comma. 3. List of co-authors (draft): 4. Abstract (draft) -- follow guidelines for PAG, please 5. Prioritize the ICGI workgroups to which your work relates most closely (top) Applied Genomics and Breeding Comparative Genomics and Bioinformatics Functional Genomics Germplasm & Genetic Stocks Structural Genomics B. Instructions for nominating someone else as a prospective speaker: [1] Confer with the person you think would be an appropriate speaker about availability, their desire to speak (20 minutes) at the workshop, prospective topic title, and willingness if selected to provide a finalized abstract to PAG. It would be important to inform that individual that PAG provides no support for travel or any other expenses for workshop speakers. Speakers must register for the conference and confirm the travel plan. International travelers requiring a visa should allow sufficient time to obtain one. [2] If the person you wish to nominate confirms their interest, send an email containing with the following SUBJECT LINE: 2020 PAG-ICGI Workshop speaker nomination, to todd.campbell(a)usda.gov In your email, please explain why this person and topic are well suited to the ICGI workshop. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM PAG TO PROSPECTIVE WORKSHOP SPEAKERS: Once speakers are added to the workshop, each speaker will be sent an automated email with instructions how to login and post their individual workshop abstract. This form will include an option and instructions for submitting a poster abstract as well. All speakers must register for the conference. -------------------------------------------- ANTICIPATED TIMELINE FOR CHOOSING WORKSHOP SPEAKERS We will attempt to arrive at decisions by October 21, 2019, for everyone to finalize and submit their abstracts, and if not chosen, to submit a poster instead. The Poster Abstract Submissions Deadline is October 27, 2019. (Please note, however, that space for posters is limited, so it might be wise to submit poster abstracts well before October 20). Nomination and election for new ICGI officers

Dear ICGI members, Per ICGI By-Laws to serve on a rotation basis, the following six offices will be open for nomination and on-line election: International Cotton Genome Initiative (ICGI) Overall ICGI Breeding & Applied Genomics Workgroup ICGI Comparative Genomics & Bioinformatics Workgroup ICGI Functional Genomics Workgroup ICGI Germplasm & Genetic Stocks Workgroup ICGI Structural Genomics Workgroup Article VII: Election and Appointment of Officers 1. Nominations and elections for the ICGI and Workgroup Co-Chairs will be held biennially. Any “Professional” member of the ICGI is eligible to serve as an officer. A “Professional” is deemed to be an individual holding an academic or governmental scientific research position. Individuals actively engaged in obtaining an academic degree or employed by a for-profit company are not eligible to serve as ICGI officers. 2. Elected officers will serve four year terms. Each officer will serve as Co-chair of ICGI or their Workgroup for two years. After two years, each Co-chair will be elevated to Chair. This email is to call for nominating candidates who are interested in serving the ICGI community. Each registered ICGI member can be nominated (or self nominated) for only one position per election. Please confirm your willingness to accept the nomination and to serve if elected. The nomination and confirmation will be accepted by Friday, March 15, 2019. Each eligible candidate will then prepare for a short statement (<300 words) to share with the voters on the election page. Individual registered ICGI member will receive a unique key to access to the statements and on-line ballots to vote for the new officers. We expect this election to begin on Monday, April 1, 2019. ICGI ELECTION RESULTS !!!

Dear ICGI members, Greetings! At this time, we have concluded our 2017 election. But, before presenting those results, please allow me to say just a few words. Cotton genomics continues to march forward! Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen MAJOR advances in cotton genomics, including SNP genotyping and sequence assemblies. Ongoing research indicates that the pace is certain to quicken the next two years. Applications of genomics continue to expand and accelerate in ALL COUNTRIES. By individually and collectively, the advances in genomics, phenomics and gene editing hold great promise for accelerating and expanding the scope of genetic improvements. Last year, we had a successful meeting in Brazil, our first to be held jointly, in this case the WCRC meeting. Recently, we’ve formalized arrangements for our 2018 biennial meeting to be held May 28 – June 1, 2018 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and will be novel relative to previous meeting locations. Special thanks to Dr. Don Jones in helping us develop those plans.
