Secretary election time. Please vote at www.bioinfo.wsu.edu/cgi-bin/gdr/gdr_rosexec_secretary_2008_vote_form.cgi. Each member of RosEXEC is allowed to cast one vote. Please vote ASAP, as we will announce the results during Friday's teleconference.

Please keep in mind that the Secretary elected for 2008 will roll into Vice Chair in 2009 and Chair in 2010. Responsibilities for RosEXEC officers are outlined below. Secretary nominees should note that this is slightly amended since last week's message; most others are seeing this list of responsibilities for the first time. GGB = genomics, genetics, & breeding.

Chair:

* Furthers the objectives of RosEXEC through coordination of RosEXEC activities * Organizes regular teleconferences and face-to-face RosEXEC meetings * Keeps the U.S. RosGGB community apprised of funding and similar strategic opportunities. * Liaises with federal research agency administrators to represent the U.S. RosGGB community * Provides minutes of RosEXEC meetings and other relevant information to be posted on the GDR RosEXEC website * Increases industry visibility of Rosaceae GGB community activities by dissemination to technical and popular media

Vice Chair:

* Provides support for Chair activities * Oversees the functioning of RosEXEC committees/working groups (such as Enabling Technologies, the working groups for the four Key Issues, etc ) * Chairs the RosEXEC membership and governance committee

§ Dissemination of election results

Secretary:

* Assists Chair and Vice Chair when called on * Takes minutes at RosEXEC meetings and forwards them in a timely manner to the Chair * Provides written summaries of RosGGB activities to Chair for dissemination to technical and popular media

All three:

* Expected to attend PAG meetings each January, RGC meetings every two years, and generally be active in national and international meetings relevant to Rosaceae GGB
