Hello RosEXEC members,
Thank you for your participation in this awesome group, dedicated to
Rosaceae crops!
It’s nomination time! As Vice-Chair in charge of nominations, I need your
help.
*We need nominations!* We are looking to *add six new U.S. members* (three-year
terms) and *two new international liaisons* (two-year terms). If you are
willing to join or know of someone else who would be great for RosEXEC
participation, please email me at mercy1(a)ufl.edu the following info for
each nominated candidate prior to *Monday, November 6, 2017*:
- Name
- CV (short version)
- Brief statement (100-word max) on proposed contributions to the
RosEXEC mission
Just names are good enough to get us moving – although if you are
nominating someone else, it’s best if you have checked their interest
first. I can contact them soon after to obtain the CV and brief statement.
I have a few people in mind, but definitely need more names in case they
are too busy.
*Past service*: Six U.S. people will be rotating off as of Jan 2018, after
three-year terms: Kenong Xu, Amy Iezzoni, Chunxian Chen, Jill Bushakra, Max
Cheng, and Cameron Peace, who served as Chair in 2016. Two international
liaisons will also be rotating off after two-year terms: Eric van de Weg,
and David Chagne.*THANK YOU* to all of these RosEXEC members for their
service! As a reward, these people get a one-year respite (unless voted in
as the 2018 Secretary) and so are not eligible for immediate re-election.
However, those who rotated off in prior years are allowed to rejoin.
*Current members* continuing into 2018 are: Ksenija Gasic (Chair -> Past
Chair), Mercy Olmstead (Vice chair -> Chair), Chris Saski (Secretary ->
Vice Chair), Bob Curtis, Steve Knapp, Jim McFerson, Vance Whitaker, Ellen
Thompson, Margaret Worthington, Dario Chavez, Janet Slovin, Lee Meisel
(Intl), Jun Wu (Intl), and Dorrie Main (ex officio).
*Diversity* is important to any committee – we aim to represent (1) roughly
equally the various Rosaceae crop production and research regions of the
U.S., (2) at least a couple members each of university, government /
USDA-ARS, and industry, (3) rosoid, pome, and stone fruit research focuses,
roughly equally, and (4) various parts of the rest of the research world.
Current members continuing into 2018 add up to:
*U.S. regions*: 4 south, 1 east, and 5 west – need more *east coast* members
*Institutions*: 6 university, 1 government, 3 industry – need more industry
and *government*.
*Crop groups*: 4.3 rosoid, 0.6 pome, and 5.2 stone – need more *pome* fruit
members
*International*: 1 South America, 1 Asia – need Europe and NZ/Australia
The only mandate for new 2018 membership is that one U.S. member must be
industry. Details above are just a guide for areas most needing
representation. Another area that would be particularly useful to have
represented is bioinformatics (in Rosaceae), given RosEXEC’s recently
acquired new role as steering committee for the GDR.
*Our next in-person, open meeting* will be within the Plant & Animal Genome
(PAG) Conference in San Diego, CA on Sunday January 14, 2017 from 10 am –
noon.
All Rosaceae researchers, industry and government affiliated persons are
welcome! Specific details will be distributed closer to the event.
Thank you so much,
Mercy

Dear RosEXEC,
Out of 22 members 14 responded and 2 time slots seem to be the best for majority (10/11) to attend. Those 2 time slots include most of the international members (Europe/Asia/NZ/Aus/South Am) participating. Please follow this link to choose between the two times https://doodle.com/poll/t9k6wc6b26axppfp
I will assume that those that already helped chose the time will attend and urge members that did not respond to the Doodle to make their choice as soon as possible. Especially important would be attendance of RosIGI and RGC organization committee representatives.
I have not received any addition to the proposed agenda or edits to the minutes from the meeting in July (see attached) so if you think of something please send it to me prior to the meeting or we can also add it at the beginning of the meeting next week.
Hope that most of you can make it.
Thank you,
Ksenija
