Summary of Position

A postdoctoral position in bioinformatics funded in part by the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station (NHEAS) is now available in the plant genomics laboratory of Dr. Thomas M. Davis. Current research in the lab is focused on defining the genome compositions of domesticated plants, identifying genes of economic interest, developing molecular and bioinformatic tools and germplasm resources in support of marker assisted plant breeding in strawberry, identification of root nodulation genes in chickpea, and the exploratory re-domestication of quinoa. Recent accomplishments include a leading role in design of the first strawberry SNP genotyping array, construction of the first pentaploid-based genetic linkage map for the octoploid strawberry, assembly of two new reference genomes for strawberry, and establishment of a molecular-cytometric framework for the identification of wild and weedy Chenopodium species. The successful candidate will contribute bioinformatics expertise to multiple projects, and will have the opportunity to design and implement new projects relevant to current research themes.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree in Genetics, Bioinformatics, or related field.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated interests in the area of applied plant genetics/genomics, experience in genome assembly, annotation, and/or DNA sequence analysis, and some knowledge of polyploid genome composition and evolution.

Salary Information

Starting Annual Salary: $47,480 plus post-doctoral benefits.
