Subject: Cotton Collection Technician
[EXTERNAL EMAIL]
Here is the announcement:
We are looking for a technician to support the U.S. National Cotton Germplasm Collection (NCGC). The NCGC has ~10,000 different accessions of cotton containing much of the genetic variation of tetraploid cotton. The collection supports
numerous research efforts across the country by supplying seed for breeding and screening germplasm for resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. A significant portion of the collection is tropical and those seed stocks are annually increased in Costa Rica.
This position will work closely with the Collection curator to maintain current stock levels, support breeding efforts throughout the country, and collaborate with cotton research projects. Located at College Station, the facilities include a personal office,
computational resources, the seed vaults, ample collection supplies, and both field and greenhouse resources for growing cotton and increasing seed stocks. Because the site is adjacent to Texas A&M University, numerous academic interactions and collaborations
are possible and somewhat expected. Most hourly wage workers are TAMU students and the incumbent will supervise 1-4 hourly wage workers throughout the calendar year. College Station is approximately 1.5 hrs from Houston and Austin and is a growing, vibrant
TX community.
